Dennis is a local man through and through, born and raised in the ward. He first represneted the area as councillor for Walmley South Ward on the old Sutton Coldfield Council from 1966-1974, then as a West Midlands County Councillor from 1977-1986 and as a councillor for New Hall since 1984.
