PETITION AGAINST THE PROPOSED SALE OF THE SOUTH PARADE CAR PARK
Last year, I alerted you of a Birmingham City Council plan to sell off 60% of the South Parade Car Park along with the vacant land that was used by Elderslea.
Since then, I have met with officers and expressed my opposition to the sale of the car park side as this will have a detrimental effect on the community.
Users of the Methodist Church, Sutton Arts Theatre, parents of children at Plantsbrook School, visitors to the Cottage hospital, Cinema and Town Centre will all suffer if the car spaces are lost!
Council officers themselves have expressed concerns due to flood risk in the area which would require mitigation measures by any developer.
Yet despite this opposition, the marketing department of the City Council is keen to proceed with the sale to balance the previous budget which was left in a mess by the former Labour administration.
In our manifesto we pledged to stop the sale if we had control of the council, but currently there is a new coalition and we are not in control, so the future of this important car park is unclear.
So your support is needed to stop the sale as to help the local community and our Town Centre.
