LABOUR BIRMINGHAM’S LOCAL PLAN PUTS SUTTON COLDFIELD’S GREEN BELT AT HIGH RISK
Sutton Coldfield’s Green Belt is facing its greatest ever threat – with 17 local sites at risk of development!
Why? Because the Labour Government’s new national planning policy framework has allowed our Green Belt sites to be reclassified as ‘grey belt’ making them eligible for development. Now Labour-led Birmingham City Council is putting forward 21 sites across the city in its Local Plan Focused Preferred Option Document (FPOD) – 17 of which are in Sutton (81%).
It’s clear that our area is being touted for yet more huge housing development projects on top of the 5,500 homes being built at Langley. What’s more, all 18.5 hectares of industrial land being promoted across the city are also right here in Sutton Coldfield!
Sutton Coldfield MP Sir Andrew Mitchell says: “These deeply unfair plans put the weight of new developments almost solely on the shoulders of the Royal Town, causing the loss of beloved green spaces and placing additional strain on local infrastructure such as schools, roads, police and our hospital. I am strongly opposed to this plan and urge all of my constituents to make their voices heard."
Sutton Coldfield’s cherished green spaces are a key part of its unique character, making it a special place to work and live.
Sutton’s Conservatives have launched this emergency petition to highlight the anger felt by Suttonians that Labour Birmingham are offering up our Green Belt land to developers.
