To progress his proposals for the future use of the Sutton Coldfield Cottage Hospital, Andrew Mitchell MP has held discussions with the Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Andrew Mitchell met with Joanne Thurston, Chief Operating Officer and Ben Richards, Divisional Director of Urgent Care Services, to discuss proposals to transform Sutton Coldfield Cottage Hospital into a versatile care and support service for the elderly.

Mr Mitchell emphasized the need to offer more immediate care and additional facilities for local residents, thereby both reducing pressure on Good Hope and Birmingham Hospitals as well as delivering better, and more localised, healthcare for Royal Town residents.

Under these proposals the Cottage Hospital would offer 24 hour care and would treat stroke victims, people with dementia, chronic ailments and minor injuries, as well as other ailments affecting older folk.

Mr Mitchell said: “It was a positive meeting and I look forward to developing this project to the benefit of all in Sutton Coldfield”.
